Cookie Policy
Accurate as at the date above, and written against what the site genuinely loads. It must be re-checked the moment anything is added, because adding analytics or an embedded feed changes the legal position immediately.
The short version
This website sets no cookies of its own. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixel and no session cookie. Nothing is stored on your device to identify you or to follow you between visits.
Because of that, there is currently no cookie banner. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, consent is required for non-essential cookies, and at present we set none. We would rather run the site this way than ask you to dismiss a banner for tracking we do not do.
What can happen if you press play on a video
Films on this site are embedded from YouTube, but they are not loaded with the page. What you see first is a still image and a play button hosted by us. Nothing is requested from YouTube, and no cookie of theirs can be set, unless you press play.
If you do press play, the player loads from youtube-nocookie.com, the
privacy-enhanced mode which defers YouTube's tracking cookies. YouTube may still store
information on your device relating to playback, and that is governed by
Google's privacy policy
rather than ours. Pressing play is your choice, and that choice is the consent.
Fonts
Two typefaces load from Google Fonts. This sets no cookies, but it does disclose your IP address to Google in order to serve the files. Self-hosting the fonts removes that entirely and is on our list of improvements.
Links out
Links to Instagram and other external sites are ordinary links. We do not embed their scripts, so those sites can only set cookies once you have actually gone there.
How to control cookies
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking them will not break this site, because it does not rely on any. aboutcookies.org has plain instructions for each browser.
If this changes
Two planned additions would change the position, and neither should go live without a consent banner in front of it:
- Website analytics. Google Analytics sets non-essential cookies and needs prior consent. A privacy-focused alternative such as Plausible or Fathom avoids cookies altogether and is worth considering for that reason alone.
- An embedded Instagram feed. Embedding Meta's script loads third-party tracking. Fetching the images at build time and serving them from our own domain avoids this, which is the approach we recommend.
We will update this page and the date at the top before adding either.
